Thermoplastic flexible hoses for R-744 application

Special line of hoses developed in compliance with EN 1736 CLASS1, which assures the lowest permeability to refrigerant gases. ZEC’s hoses are the best flexible solution for natural gases as refrigerants (R-744, R-717, R-290, R-600a, etc.) in both sub-critical and trans-critical applications.

Description

R-744 (CO2) based refrigeration is, without any doubt, a great evolution for the shift to low-GWP refrigerants. R-744 however requires high pressure and temperature, that means a complete redesign of heat exchangers and the whole refrigeration circuit. Flexible hoses could help to make this transition easier.
Flexible thermoplastic hoses are already widely used in refrigeration and air conditioning applications where flexibility, easy installation and maintenance are mandatory. With some new developments, thermoplastic hoses can already be used also with R-744 in both sub-critical and trans-critical applications, favouring the transition from high-GWP to low-GWP gases in refrigeration and air conditioning sectors. The challenge is combined the pressure and temperature resistance, without compromising the flexibility and achieving the lower permeability level required by EN 1736 class1.
The presentation will briefly describe the manufacturing and structure of the flexible hoses used in refrigeration circuits. Deeper focus will be put on the requirements of EN 1736 and possible future developments to handle the special characteristics of R-744, which are not taken into account in the current standards on flexible hoses.
Finally we will describe how ZEC S.p.A. manages the new challenges of R-744, explaining the new product range developed for R-744 and how that will help to make the transition to natural refrigerants easier. Embracing the idea of ‘’natural refrigeration’’, ZEC wants to be an active part of the solution to the global warming, supporting human health and encouraging the creation of a sustainable society.
