Among the various applications of the HVAC&R, the refrigeration sector is the one mostly affected by the F-GAS phase down in terms of effectiveness of the usage of the low GWP synthetic refrigerants that substantially are the "A2L", the HFC/HFO mixtures that are the only alternative to the naturals.

Session description
Essentially, already today, in 2026, all categories of refrigeration equipment are required to use refrigerants with a GWP below 150. The only exception, valid until 2030, is the category of “chiller-type” units operating with a secondary fluid, which are temporarily allowed to use refrigerants with a GWP up to 750.
This effectively limits the viable refrigerant options to just two categories: natural refrigerants and A2L. A2Ls with GWP below 150 show a slight advantage in terms of safety management; however, they are very few (only two, namely R454C and R455A) and, more importantly, they do not offer sufficiently attractive thermophysical properties.
