Hydrocarbon refrigerants such as propane (R290) and isobutane (R600a) are increasingly adopted across HVACR applications due to their favourable thermodynamic properties and very low global warming potential. A defining characteristic of these refrigerants is their high solubility in lubricants, which fundamentally differentiates them from other fluid classes and introduces distinct lubrication challenges.
