Freeex R-744: the technology enhancing transcritical refrigeration plants energy efficiency

Freeex is the mechanical device that can recover up to 70 % of flash gas potential energy, this allows for a reduction of electricity consumption up to 25 %.
Additional benefits are cooling capacity increase and lower evaporating temperature.

Session description

Freeex is a full and only mechanical device used in transcritical refrigeration systems to recover the potential energy contained in flash gas that would otherwise be wasted. The recovered energy is used by a reciprocating compressor that makes precompression of the vapor from the evaporator before it is sent to the main compressor.
Freeex consists of two main elements; the first is a cylinder-piston type expander-compressor. Flash gas is expanded on one side of the piston, and the recovered work is used by the other side of the piston, which compresses the vapor from the evaporator. The compressed vapor, together with that discharged from the expander, is sent to the main compressor, which can benefit from a reduction in its compression ratio.
The second element is an ex ...
