Boosting Energy Efficiency: Hybrid R-744 System with Flooded Evaporators and R-454C
This innovative system uses pumped R-744 for medium temp and direct-expansion R-744 for low temp. R-744 cooling is ensured by R-454C with ultra-low GWP (<150). The design maximizes energy efficiency via flooded evaporators at higher pressures

Session description
This project presents an advanced, eco-friendly refrigeration system designed for commercial and industrial settings, emphasizing both energy efficiency and regulatory compliance. The system integrates two optimized R-744 circuits: a pumped R-744 loop serves the medium temperature (MT) levels via flooded evaporators, while the low temperature (LT) stages use subcritical R-744 in direct expansion, condensed on the MT pumped R-744 loop. This cascade arrangement ensures reliable, efficient cooling across a broad temperature range. A central innovation is the use of R-454C a refrigerant with ultra-low Global Warming Potential (GWP) below 150 for cooling the R-744 loop. R-454C enables the system to meet current and future F-Gas requirements, reducing environmental impact while ensuring long-ter ...
