World's Largest Air-Source Heat Pumps
Fenagy shares how it is building the world's largest air-source heat pumps with natural refrigerants. Two landmark projects are explored: 16 MW in Billund, capitalising on volatile spot prices and grid services, and 26 MW in Svendborg, using isobutane subcooling of CO₂.

Session description
As the energy transition accelerates, the demand for large-scale, sustainable heating solutions has never been greater. In this tech talk, Fenagy – a Danish manufacturer of industrial heat pumps using natural refrigerants only – presents its journey toward building and deploying the world's largest air-source heat pumps.
Founded in 2020 and based in Aarhus, Fenagy has delivered more than 235 heat pumps totaling over 400 MW, primarily to district heating applications across Northern Europe. Using CO₂ as the primary refrigerant, Fenagy's H-range scales up to 3.5 MW per unit – and through a modular approach, individual plants reach capacities previously thought impossible for air-source technology.
