Session description

Based on a case study at Hydro's industrial facility, this project transforms waste heat into a valuable asset.

Instead of rejecting heat from the industrial cooling process into the atmosphere, a new system captures it. A Turbocor-based water-to-water heat pump boosts this recovered heat to a temperature high enough to warm the entire facility, replacing the need for gas boilers.

The system goes a step further by using a second-stage BOCK piston-based water-water heat pump to boost the excess heat from the first-stage system. This provides high-temperature pre-heating for aluminum billets used in the final manufacturing process.
