In recent years the political and regulatory landscape has been shifting to natural refrigerants and constantly reducing the impact of synthetic refrigerants (GWP). In specific, the latest F-Gas regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/573) and the ongoing PFAS discussions are driving an accelerated phase down and bans for certain Refrigerants paving the drive towards natural refrigerants more quickly and clearly.
Natural refrigerants have, besides environmental benefits, also challenges like flammability, toxicity and high-pressure requirements which need to be considered in the development of appliances and components.
