IEA HPT TCP Annex 64, Safety measures for flammable refrigerants, consists of researchers from many countries who are cooperating to conduct research related to safety when using flammable refrigerants.
This presentation will focus on flammable refrigerants research activities in the US. Extensive research on flammable refrigerants safety has been conducted in the US, and more is in planning. The industry collaborative effort led by the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute has been focusing on A2L and A3 refrigerants flammability risks. More recently, Oak Ridge National Laboratory has been working under the guidance of the US Department of Energy Building Technologies Office to develop a comprehensive plan for the risk mitigation of A3 and A2L refrigerants when deployed in various HVAC&R and other associated applications.
This presentation will provide an overview of the US industry’s collaborative research effort on flammable refrigerants and the future plan including a roadmap for the developments highlighting major initiatives, stakeholders and timeline.
