Description

This presentation will provide an update from the United States on issues of common concern, including the refrigerant transition, implementation of tax incentives for the purchase of energy efficient products, and the state of regulations at the end of the current presidential administration.

The refrigerant transition is well underway; manufacturers are currently producing equipment with next-generation refrigerants and will begin widespread distribution at the beginning of 2025. At the same time, AHRI is working diligently to ensure that all 50 U.S. states and all U.S. territories allow the use of A2L refrigerants by the January 1, 2025, deadline. Implementation of the tax incentives for highly efficient equipment contained in the Inflation Reduction Act has been slow and spotty among states and within the federal government. We expect that will change as we approach the next tax season, which begins in January 2025. It also will discuss the need for common sense and collaboration in implementing sustainability initiatives to ensure consumer buy-in. Failure to involve consumers in the establishment of green initiatives has resulted in countries, states, and localities needing to revise or extend timelines in the wake of consumer backlash. End-users must be convinced of the necessity of green initiatives, otherwise, even those who are very concerned about climate change will balk and make alternative choices in their heating, cooling, and water heating purchases. While most consumers and manufacturers strive for sustainability, it must be achieved in a way that is inclusive and affordable.
