Description

Fans are key components in ventilation units, chillers, heat pumps and room air-conditioners and have a huge impact on the energy performance and the total energy demand for buildings, cold and heat generation.
Efficient fans in new products and systems as well as a replacement in existing units are gaining significant savings. Horizontal regulation like the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) revision is expected to include, beside the energy efficiency and CO2-emission aspects, further requirements on Indoor Environment Quality (IEQ) including minimum requirements on thermal comfort and indoor air quality.
Fan assisted ventilation systems, heat pumps and room conditioning provide efficiency, renewable energy, thermal comfort and good indoor air quality simultaneously. This means, that these products are key elements to achieve the 2045 goals to a carbon neutral, healthy and comfortable and productive building stock. The revision of the eco-design framework for energy-related products 2009/125/EG to a more advanced “eco-design requirements for sustainable products” regulation will include further aspects of the products like carbon and material footprint and advanced circularity and repair requirements and will lead to a digital product passport guiding through the whole life cycle of the product. Challenging requirements for manufacturers to avoid an overbearing bureaucracy for a very individual product/component like a fan.
The presentation will give also further information and data about expected savings based on the draft eco-design revision for fans.
