Description

District heating with R-717 heat pumps using river water.

The use of large heat pumps is becoming increasingly important for the district heating supply. Johnson Controls may provide a wide range of standardized heat pump solutions. In this installation case a customized large heat pump version is shown. The technical implementation of an 2-stage large heat pump system with ammonia for the use of river water using the example of the Stadtwerke Rosenheim is presented in the lecture of Johnson Controls.

R-717 is one of the most beneficial refrigerants for large heat pump systems. It has no ODP - Potential or direct GWP contribution to the global warming problem. The use of R-717 is safe for heat pump installations by the implementation of safety measures.

The heat pump plant contains of 3 units of two stage R-717 heat pumps. Each heat pump set is constructed of a low stage screw compressors set connected in combination to a high stage reciprocating compressor set. The presentation shows some details from the erection and commissioning phase. Some construction details will be presented. The heat pump refrigeration cycle will be presented with an simplified P&ID diagram. The heat energy of oil and compressor cooling and the waste energy of machinery room is used to produce heat energy for district heating.
