Environmental regulations across the globe are shifting refrigerant standards to low-GWP alternatives and pushing energy efficiency standards to higher levels.Simultaneously, electrification efforts are driving more widespread adoption of heat pumps to replace fossil-fuel powered furnaces and boilers.
To support these transition efforts Arkema has developed a very-low GWP refrigerant, Forane 516A, to replace R-134a in medium to low temperature applications in refrigeration, chillers, air conditioning, and heat pumps. Arkema will present Forane 516A and provide information on how this refrigerant can help achieve GWP reduction, energy efficiency, and regulatory compliance goals.
Forane 516A provides a 90% GWP reduction while offering potential energy savings over R-134a and other alternatives. This GWP reduction will help OEM’s reduce their environmental impact, while maintaining the performance of their systems. In some applications, R-516A can potentially improve energy efficiency versus R-134a, R-1234yf, and other alternative refrigerants. In addition, the properties of the refrigerant closely mimic the properties of R-134a, so many components can continue to be utilized across systems. This allows OEM’s to reduce the amount of time and effort it takes to redesign systems, qualify new components, and establish stock of new parts. OEM’s can potentially utilize R-516A properties to bring products to market faster and more cost effectively than competing products replacing R-134a.
