The IEA HPT Project 68 supports the market uptake of high-temperature heat pumps (HTHPs) in industry by providing reliable, structured data on available technologies, installed systems and integration concepts. HTHPs can decarbonise industrial process heat by upgrading low-temperature waste heat to useful temperature levels using relatively little electricity, thereby efficiently replacing fossil-fired heat. Despite generally high technical maturity, market penetration remains limited; Task 1 has documented 40 demonstration cases to date.
