Driving a Circular Economy Through Reclaimed Refrigerants
As the EU F-gas phasedown significantly reduces the availability of virgin HFC refrigerants, the RACHP sector, including the rapidly growing heat pump market, faces increasing challenges in maintaining supply security and supporting existing equipment throughout its operational lifetime. This presentation explores how Lifecycle Refrigerant Management (LRM), through the recovery, reclamation, reuse and responsible destruction of refrigerants, can help bridge the emerging supply gap, support circular economy objectives, and strengthen the resilience of Europe’s heating and cooling transition.

Session description
The EU's ambitious F-gas phasedown is driving a fundamental transformation of the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump sector. With significant quota reductions scheduled for 2027 and beyond, the availability of virgin HFC refrigerants will continue to decline, while servicing demand for existing systems remains substantial. As a result, recovered refrigerants are becoming an increasingly important strategic resource for maintaining equipment, ensuring business continuity, and supporting the long-term deployment of heat pump technologies.
