Description

With the introduction of F-Gas Regulation and Kigali Agreement, it has never been more important for you to understand low global-warming-potential (GWP) refrigerants and their role in the future of the industrial refrigeration industry, for which Honeywell has developed long-term refrigerant solutions such as R-1234ze, widening the possibilities for the whole industry. In this session.

Honeywell will present the latest findings on a side-by-side comparison of R-717 and R-1234ze chillers, that will be shown throughout the Life-Cycle Assessment of a 350 kW chiller in an industrial refrigeration project. Chiller manufacturers, refrigeration consultants, and contractors will gain valuable information and insights about the latest developments in refrigerant technology for this industry. Like all other applications using fluorinated refrigerants, industrial refrigeration OEMs are in the process of developing alternatives to R-717 chillers that will meet the requirements of EU F-Gas regulation and comply with the energy labeling directives.

Solstice ze (R-1234ze) and N15 (R-515B) are ideal candidates in such applications, providing higher safety and better efficiency while keeping the GWP at the lowest level. With the energy labeling directives pushing the efficiency threshold levels higher, the importance of using an efficient and non-toxic refrigerant is much bigger especially for the manufacturers aiming for the lowest operational costs. The presentation will also give a first overview of the Life-Cycle Assessment on a 350 kW chiller, which will compare R-1234ze and NH3 carbon emissions as well as the theoretical comparisons of both refrigerant characteristics and physical properties impacting COP.
Additional focus will be put on refrigerant related safety topics, which will include a hazard comparison and a sustainability analysis of refrigerant leaks and production.
