Smart refrigeration: Food preservation at the lowest cost as a pathway towards decarbonization

Improvement comes from defining an energy and operational strategy supported by predictive maintenance. This allows moving away from traditional refrigeration models (with no data and 100 % onsite maintenance) to a refrigeration model with 70 % self-executing actions and effective energy management

Currently, the most efficient cooling solutions on the market are R-717 and R-744. Therefore, for companies equipped with such installations, optimizing mechanical consumption is challenging. Thus, in the face of mature refrigeration technologies, the only way to continue improving is to define an operational strategy supported by new technologies.

There are various issues derived from industrial and commercial refrigeration:
There are product losses due to malfunctions in the cold rooms.
Energy costs increase because the cooling system does not operate optimally and during cheaper periods. Increases the negative impact on the environment.
Maintenance is done manually without data, and 70 % of it occurs after a failure.
Production downtime occurs as a consequence of the aforementioned issues.

With Gradhoc we overcome these challenges. Gradhoc is a cloud platform that optimizes the operation of the refrigeration installation and performs preventive/predictive maintenance, acting automatically before the failure occurs. It anticipates alarms.

What does the software do?
It optimizes the operation of the refrigeration system based on data while adhering to the requirements of the production process.
Preventive/predictive maintenance with automatic interventions in the refrigeration system before a failure occurs. It anticipates alarms.
It manages the available renewable energies.

What does it achieve?
Adapt to periods with lower tariff costs.
Optimize the contracted tariff.
Avoid penalties for excess consumption.
Reduce maintenance interventions.

Benefits:
Environmental Impact: Reduction of CO2 emissions, between 20 and 30 %.
Economic Impact: Reduction of energy costs by between 20 % and 40 %. Reduction of maintenance costs by 25 %.
Social Impact: Reduction of weekend and nighttime maintenance tasks by 70 %, significantly improving individuals' personal lives.

We must move away from the traditional refrigeration model, where there is no information regarding the operation of the installations, conducting 100 % preventive and corrective maintenance in the field, and transitioning to a refrigeration model with automatic maintenance, featuring 70 % self-executing actions. Through technologies such as the digital twin, the optimizer, and self-executing automatic actions with artificial intelligence, it is possible to make changes in control systems to improve the operation of refrigeration facilities.
