The transition toward natural refrigerants is reshaping industrial refrigeration, particularly in low temperature applications where system design strongly impacts both investment and operating performance. This presentation analyses and compares the total lifecycle cost (LCC) of four key technologies: R-717 systems, R-744 transcritical systems, R-717/R-744 cascade, and R-290/R-744 cascade.
The methodology integrates both capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX), with a strong focus on real operating conditions. The study is conducted for three representative plant sizes—150 kW, 300 kW and 600 kW—to reflect typical industrial applications and capture scale effects on both investment and performance.
