The increasingly stringent European environmental regulations have pushed manufacturers operating in the refrigeration and air conditioning sector to develop alternative solutions that use refrigerants that go beyond these restrictions and which, hopefully, will be resilient to the introduction of new regulations in the future.

The market has therefore focused on natural refrigerants and in particular on hydrocarbons, ammonia and carbon dioxide. The latter immediately opportunities in the commercial refrigeration area, growing at high rates year by year, until it established itself as the main solution in this sector. This rapid diffusion meant that R-744 was recognized for its important qualities, like its high heat exchange capacity and its higher cooling capacity in reference to other refrigerants at the same displacement. Recently, to meet the needs of the market, the use of R-744 was first extended to mixed solutions, combining pure refrigeration systems with those linked to heat recovery and, subsequently, it gradually established itself for Heat Pump application. Instead of adapting a solution born for a different application, Frascold recognized the importance of developing ad hoc solutions, completely redefining the internal components of its compressors and to guarantee the same high standards of reliability typical of its products.

The new R-744 transcritical compressors TK HD was created with the aim to redefining the state of the art of compressor used in trascritical applications. TK HD are the first transcrical compressors that adopt a full steel mechanism, not only to increase mechanical resistance but also to be insensitive to the high thermal variation typical of heat pump and heat recovery applications. In addition, the adoption of components treated with new surface coating allows to prevent wear also during continuous operation and in presence of inverter. These guarantee that TK HD compressors have a useful operating life far superior to the current range. But everything would be limited if we did not also guarantee high energy efficiency and this is why Frascold has also invested heavily on this side, accompanying the mechanical improvement with a new range of high efficiency motors, capable to increase the COP up to 15 % of a single compressor.

Frascold cares about the environment and knows that to be truly green, a system must not only use refrigerants with low environmental impact, but must guarantee that those systems last over time.
