Reducing the charge in ammonia systems is becoming increasingly important. But reducing the charge must be done in a way so that the efficiency of the system is not compromised. Reducing the charge in an ammonia system requires that either the circulation rate in a pump
circulation system is controlled (CCR - Controlled Circulation Rate) or that the system is changed to a direct expansion (DX) system. And in case of a DX system, the efficiency of the system must be maintained by reducing the superheat in the evaporators as much as possible, or even by running the evaporator slightly flooded – WDX system (Wet Direct eXpansion).
This presentation is focusing on a new technology so called NeoCharge, a plug and play self-adaptive solution able to feed air cooler evaporators with the right amount of refrigerant keeping fixed the vapor quality.
The solution consisting of a sensor, an electronic controller and a control valve, can be used to control the circulation rate in a pump system both during full load and part load, and the solution can control the outlet of an evaporator in a WDX system so that the amount of liquid returning from the evaporator is handled in a safe manner.
