Reduce downtime, reduce costs, and increase uptime through air filtration in data centers

Corrosive contaminants in datacenters have costly consequences: Downtime, non-compliance to warranty specifications, ghost signals due to shortcuts by sulfide whiskers, circuit board failure and even complete failure of equipment such as hard drives and in the worst case - electric fires, explosions

8) Data center Hardware Warranty Statements and HVAC Air Pollution Control
9) Consequences and Cost Effective HVAC Modifications
10) Summary and Outlook
11) Q&A Description:
This presentation raises awareness on the risks of electronics corrosion by environmental gas pollution, the electrochemical reasons for equipment failures and the precautionary measures that can easily be taken by modification of AC equipment. The target group are datacenter planners, datacenter owners, facility engineers/operators and their respective facility management. Corrosion occurs often and corrosion related damage is well known but is mostly attributed to moisture, not to the environmental air pollution and related corrosive gases which actually are the root cause . The danger of corrosion concerns copper wires, nickel plated parts and immersion silver welds. Preventive electronics hardware replacement is costly and prevents parts failure, but not complete datacenter blackout. The risks for datacenters are tremendous independent if they are operated in inner cities, industrial areas, rural areas: Electronic Parts Damage, in the range of a few 1.000 USD to a few 1.000.000 USD per incident. Data Center Downtime, in the range of a few 100.000 to a few 10.000.000 USD per hour. Fire Hazard Issues, hard to estimate – ranges from potential loss of a few pieces of equipment, data loss, from partial losses up to the whole datacenter to injuries and the loss of life. Personal Safety, from minor injuries/burns by shorts up to the loss of life by arc flashes in power supply areas.
Manfred Zoermer will present how contamination control needs to work inline with mandatory specifications for Data Center Operation and how MANN+HUMMEL can support with air filtration solutions to avoid cost and datacenter failures and to protect people working and servicing in data centers.
