A2L Solutions for Cold Rooms

A summary of the challenges of A2L refrigerants for split system cold room applications relative to refrigerant charge limits, flammability limits, room sizes and pipe runs. How does the Marstair A2LsysteMatch overcome this with case study examples.

Beschreibung

The F-gas regulations have implemented a strict refrigerant phase down continuing into 2030 and new EU proposals have the quota continuing to reduce until 2048.
Alternative solutions must be found to current high GWP HFC installations and cold rooms is an area of particular difficulty. R-744 refrigerant solutions can be expensive to install and run, as well as requiring new skills for installers. A2L refrigerants operate in a very similar way to current F-gas refrigerants and are cheaper to install and run.
But there are limits on refrigerant charge levels within the EN378 standard of 20% of the lower flammability limit. Appling traditional split system methods requires refrigerant charge levels which are nearly always higher than internal cold room volumes will allow.
A2LsysteMatch challenges traditional thinking and reduces refrigerant charge levels to a minimum, allowing high capacity split systems in small rooms with long pipe runs.
This presentation will focus on scale of the challenge when using A2L’s within EN378 for cold rooms and how the Marstair A2LsysteMatch overcomes these challenges. There will be example case studies of cold room split system installations with various customers, with 1 example of a system running on refrigerant charge level as low as 380 g and a reduced system refrigerant GWP of 99.5 % relative to 2015 style installations. The presentation will also show the large TCO and TCO2 savings that can be achieved through using Marstair A2LsysteMatch A2L split systems for cold rooms when compared to current alternative HFC and R-744 solutions.
