Testing of large-scale heat pumps Fraunhofer IEG

The Fraunhofer IEG has developed a new lab that allows high-quality testing of large-scale heat pumps beyond the 400 kW limit of the KEYAMRK certificate. Temperature-wise the test environment can emulate any common heat sources and heat sinks of heating, district heating and industrial applications.

Session Beschreibung

One of the key problems regarding the roll-out of large-scale heat pumps is limited high-quality testing capacity. Setting up accredited test beds for applications beyond the 400 kW limit of the KEYAMRK certificate is complex and costly, putting manufacturers off establishing such labs themselves.

Yet high quality testing for large-scale heat pumps is necessary since potential customers might not have enough faith in devices or will not get aware of the eligibility of devices for grants. In Germany heat pumps in this class will only be publicly listed for BAFA funding with efficiency being measured according to the standards of ISO 17025.
