R-717 is the traditional refrigerant for industrial cooling. Being a highly efficient and low cost gas lead to wide spread usage across many applications from food processing to beverage industries, cold logistics and storage and to industrial processes. The drive for more environmental benign substances gave even more impetus to the use of natural refrigerants. With the potential ban on PFAS the dynamics are accelerating to phase out all non-natural refrigerants.
