Hall 4: Hygiene in air-charged heat exchangers

In practice, not all participants (operators and specialist contractors) are as yet familiar in sufficient detail with the hygiene-specific maintenance and inspection work on air conditioning and ventilation systems as per VDI 6022.

However, it is noticeable that operators of air conditioning and ventilation systems are increasingly identifying with this issue. As a result of the amendment to the hygiene directive VDI 6022 Sheet 1, new and/or more extensive tasks have been defined for operating and maintaining air conditioning and ventilation systems and equipment. These requirements serve primarily to protect human health. As a result of the amended directive, the standardisation committee has succeeded among other things in producing important and more comprehensive descriptions of the cleaning procedures for the components of an air conditioning or ventilation system.

The directive now states quite explicitly – and this is a new inclusion – that a thorough cleaning of the components is to be preferred to disinfection. The wording is: Cleaning is always to be prioritised over disinfecting. Targeted disinfection may only be carried out where there is a proven necessity.

At the special display area, speakers from the German Federal College of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology will initially provide important basic information about the extensions and changes in the new VDI 6022 directive compared with the old version. In conjunction with manufacturers of air conditioning and ventilation components there will then be a very informative practical demonstration of how the necessary cleaning and inspecting work should be carried out using the typical system components provided. This includes cleaning and inspection work on dehumidifying coolers (for commercial cold-storage rooms and ventilation systems), adiabatic spray humidifiers, hot steam humidifiers and water treatment systems.

Finally, the presentation will discuss the necessary documentation and verification management for the cleaning and inspection measures.
