AtmosZero is a US-based startup with a European subsidiary with a clear goal of taking climate action. Between 7 and 10 % of primary energy is being used to create steam below 200 °C for industrial processes and today lead to significant anthropogenic CO2 emissions.
AtmosZero aims to provide a cost-effective way to decarbonize steam generation. Our solution is Boiler 2.0, an air-sourced steam generating Heat Pump that can serve as a drop-in replacement for gas-fired boilers that provides the lowest-cost decarbonized steam. The Boiler 2.0 technology concept provides the best of both worlds: the thermodynamic efficiency of a Heat Pump leads to reduced operating expenses, and the integration simplicity of a stand-alone solution that does not require the cost, engineering complexity or facility downtime associated with complex waste-heat integration.
In our presentation we will provide an in-depth look at the techno-economic aspects of steam generating Heat Pumps, comparing air-sourced Heat Pump solutions to Heat Pumps based on waste heat. We will present the trade-off criteria for selecting the correct technology for a given application. In addition, general background of the company will be presented, including a technology overview of the Boiler 2.0 product, the development approach, preliminary prototype test results, and the planned industrial ramp-up.
Finally, a sneak peak will be given into the pilot test to be performed at New Belgium Brewery, which is the first-ever in-field deployment of this technology.
