Whilst chip ice is produced with an evaporating temperature between -8°C and -10°C and has an ideal ice temperature of -0,5°C, it can be stored between 0 °C to -2°C without cooling and will never clog. Flake ice needs an evaporating temperature down to -35°C (high energy consumption) for the production and therefore is sub cooled. It has to be chilled during storage in order to avoid clogging. Additional cooling with extra cost is required for the ice Silo. Even if chip ice is not as cold as flake ice, the capacity is nearly the same (a difference of less than 5% of the total melting capacity). For the production of BUCO ice you do not need chemicals or salt as for flake ice production. BUCO chip ice can be manufactured from non-corrosive city water of a usual water hardness, which is a big advantage of this industrial ice maker. BUCO chip ice will not damage delicate products as it is softer and without the hard sharp edges of subcooled flake ice.
Method of operation
Water is running down the outside of the panels according to the falling-film principle. The evaporation process chills the water respectively forms ice on the panel surfaces. After a certain time ice has been built on the panel surfaces. At preset intervals hot gas is automatically led for a short time to the panels of this industrial ice maker. The ice is released and falls into the ice crusher reservoir below. The ice-crusher crushes the ice plates into small pieces as wanted.
