Energy-efficient fans for chiller cabinets
Greater efficiency with large function range.
Making a significant reduction to the energy consumption of fans in chiller cabinets requires specialist knowledge, both in terms of the aerodynamic design of rotor, blades and the housing, as well as in the development of particularly efficiently operating drive motors. For this reason, ebm-papst developed a range of fans powered by energy-saving motors (ESM). Compared to standard shaded-pole motors, the ESM's 70% motor efficiency level is over three times as efficient. In order to meet market requirements, the proven series has been expanded with additional functions. The optional guard grille, for example, is made from epylen, a resource-preserving wood-plastic compound material developed by ebm-papst.
With the manual control element programmer, an additional device designed specifically for use in manufacturing, the two pre-set speed levels for the energy-saving fans can be easily reprogrammed using a user-friendly navigation menu. A mini USB plug enables new software updates to be downloaded. Batteries, programming cable and operating instructions are included in delivery.
The ESM are also available with ATEX approval II 3G nA IIA T4 and meet the ATEX norm EN 60079. This allows these fans to be used even in systems with flammable natural refrigerants with filling levels over 150 g, which are subject to increased requirements. This means the energy-saving fans, as per safety regulation EN 60335-2-89, can also be used in ex-zone 2 areas such as in larger refrigerated display cases, interconnected and cascade systems (ATEX 95 (94/9EC)) common in supermarkets.
Using a plug-on interface module (ESM+), the ESM can quickly be quickly expanded with a 0-10 VDC control input and a +10 V voltage output (10 V max. 1.1 mA). This enables direct power supply to an external pressure or temperature sensor, for example. An additional power supply is therefore unnecessary. In addition, the module offers a speed signal for speed monitoring as standard.
A further development step is the 24 VDC version with integrated 0-10 V interface, e. g. for chiller cabinets with LED lighting. This removes the need for an additional module. The ESM range is rounded off by the ESM with diagonal impeller design. Its most impressive feature is its optimised noise and air flow behaviour in the medium pressure range.
The diversity of the range allows the entire system to be regulated according to requirements, providing a further boost to system efficiency. The energy-saving fans are designed for long operation periods without maintenance. The service life is over 60,000 hours in most cases, regardless of the operating conditions. Thanks to the high energy saving, installing the fans in new units or in a retrofit quickly pays for itself.
