Zitrec MC - mixed with the appropriate amount of water - is used as a multipurpose heat transfer fluid based on mono ethylene
Many applications in the industry require a fluid to transport heat or cold. Those applications range from solar panels or heat
pump systems, over cooling or heating of industrial processes and refrigerants in indirect cooling systems to artificial ski-tracks or ice rinks. This transport medium is usually called secondary refrigerant or secondary coolant. The ideal secondary refrigerant must ensure a good thermal conductivity; have a high specific heat and low viscosity. It is also
important that the secondary refrigerant is non-flammable and compatible with common engineering materials.
Zitrec MC provides protection against boiling, freezing and corrosion. The dilution is determined by system requirements, mainly freezing requirements. However, to ensure good corrosion protection it is recommended to use at least 33 vol. % of Zitrec MC in the coolant solution, which provides freeze protection to -20°C. For lower freezing protection it is recommended to use Zitrec M–15°C. This ready-to-use solution contains an adjusted corrosion inhibitor package to ensure optimal corrosion protection. Mixtures with more than 70 vol. % of Zitrec MC in water are not recommended, because the freeze point is increasing again and physical properties are worse.

Arteco is a Joint Venture company of Total and Chevron Corporation and was created in November 1998. In Arteco both parent companies have combined their strengths in corrosion inhibition technology and manufacturing. Arteco is building on an inheritance of technology, creativity and expertise to develop and market its products in various applications.
Arteco represents both Chevron Corporation and Total in Europe for the production, development and marketing of engine coolants, heat transfer fluids and corrosion inhibition for a wide range of industries. As such Arteco has been granted the use of both Chevron Corporation and Total's technology and brand names for automotive coolants. For industrial applications, Arteco has its own brandname Zitrec. The productrange has been completed with Freezium, for which Arteco signed an agreement with Kemira Chemicals.
Arteco's Zitrec heat transfer fluids are produced in Schoten, near Antwerp, and can handle as well bulk production and filling of drums, containers and 20L pails. The R&D department located in Ghent (Belgium) continuously strives to improve existing processes and to develop new products that respond to specific customer needs. Today, about 15% of the workforce is employed in development.
