The current climate change is such that all available solutions must be implemented in order to reduce the impact on the climate and global warming. Reducing CO2 equivalent tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions should strongly encourage the use of new ultra-low GWP solutions in all applications including commercial and industrial refrigeration.
It is not sufficient to select the refrigerant only on the basis of its GWP, it is also important to look at it from an "energy efficiency first" perspective. In order to make an informed choice, Climalife provides an eco-efficiency calculation tool to assess the overall financial (CAPEX and OPEX) and environmental (TEWI) impact of the selected technologies.
It highlights the most eco-efficient option for a specific installation. The new Solstice® N71 (R-471A) refrigerant, developed by Honeywell, is a new alternative that meets all those criteria. With a GWP of 148, this HFO-based fluid is non-flammable, A1 classified and easy to use. It offers many powerful opportunities for medium temperature applications including the sustainability of existing installations in large food retail shops even at high ambient temperatures. The technical characteristics of R-471A will be presented at the conference.
