Using the refrigerator for heating? What appears impossible does in fact work. The same physical cycle that keeps the temperature low in the refrigerator, provides pleasant warmth and hot water in the home. Because the refrigerator is actually a heat pump, as the method of operation is identical apart from one difference: Heat is extracted from the refrigerator and discharged into the surroundings, whereas the heat pump uses the thermal energy in the surroundings for heating purposes. The sources of heat used here in addition to the ambient air are water and geothermal energy, and in companies and large building complexes warm server rooms or other sources of waste heat.

Chillventa 2012 ended after three successful days with a record number of 915¹⁾ companies from 43 countries, 28,462¹⁾ trade visitors and 200 congress participants. From 9–11 October, Nürnberg was the hub of the international refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump community for the third time. Chillventa Congressing started as usual the day before the exhibition with top speakers from all over the world and a first-class conference programme. The new Chairman of the Exhibition Committee was elected as scheduled on the third day of the exhibition.
